OVERVIEW

The 5 steps of the Product Impact Process

We start by identifying your impact goals and putting them in the context of your business requirements, then work closely with you to develop a holistic solution step by step. By applying Lean Impact principles, we ensure that no money or resources are wasted at any step.

The most important disciplines and areas of product development are integrated into our holistic approach. With our Product Impact Process we ensure that your product does not fail and take responsibility for the impact and your business success. Together with you, we can determine your desired impact and business goals. Once the product development cycle is complete, we assess the impact of your tool, prioritize next features, and plan the next cycle for prototyping (UX), development, and delivery.

DEEP DIVE

These are the 5 steps in detail

Sebastian Ullherr, Founder interfacewerk

Strategy and Discovery

Based on your input, we develop a strategy towards your impact goals while respecting business constraints and goals. This usually happens in multiple workshops between our chief strategist, UX experts and your team. We'll employ a structured approach and develop a shared strategy canvas.

View sample project for strategy: Plastic IQ
For the plastic reduction tool, the basis was a joint impact strategy. The aim here was to reach more stakeholders than with a mere consulting approach. In the meantime, 9 U.S. companies are part of the Plastic IQ Leaderboard, so that the impact goals, such as a circular economy for plastic packaging, are being achieved.

Problem Research (UX)

We use product discovery and UX research methods to find out what exactly your target audience expects and what their pain points and needs are. To do this, we apply various UX research methods (remote or on-site) in the context of your target audience). We develop and update a constantly growing database of assumptions, insights and proven facts about your target audience, their context and their challenges. This allows us to develop accurate solutions and make decisions based on facts, not opinions.

View sample project for Problem Research: Erium
In the development of an AI tool for data scientists, we closely examined the assumptions about users and built further understanding of users. At the end of the UX research, we had a lot of new insights about user needs. This helped Erium's startup team a lot to make informed product decisions and create a product that also attracted more investors to the startup.

Solution Prototyping (UX)

We will create prototypes of potential solutions on paper, in mock ups and various digital degrees of fidelity. This enables us to test ideas early, iterate and refining the UI design until we have proven results. Usually, as there are more ideas than time, we help to analytically prioritize solution ideas by impact and effort. Each visual item we create here can be used in your funding process to show progress and inspire. Smart funders will accept that it wise to spend some time in this phase, as it is orders of magnitude cheaper than scaling an unproven solution.

View sample project for Solution Prototyping: Putzmeister
For the new machine interface for the zero-emission concrete pump, we tested various solution approaches with a paper prototype. Real users were allowed to "click through". This allowed us to iterate very quickly, perform A/B testing very easily and thus arrive at the best result very pragmatically and without much effort.

Development

A well-designed product requires a solid, scalable architecture. We ensure a seamless transition from UX to development in small, agile development teams led by a project manager and senior solution architect. We can handle the software development aspect of the web app, mobile app, or platform tool, or work with your development team if that's what you want.

Example project for development: Project Climate
For the mobility app, the Fleet Analyzer, we were allowed to take over both the backend and frontend development and software architecture. The application is based on Angular and Ruby on Rails.

Delivery

After the first product iteration is complete and ready for the first users, we take care of deployment and continued operation, making the solution available where it is needed. We deploy modern, scalable cloud solutions and security architectures.

Example project for Delivery: Global Plastic IQ
For the digital tool for plastic reduction, we took over the provision and continued operation in a service contract. Once new user data and feedback was collected, we worked together on further meaningful features to achieve even more impact.

Our principles are: holistic, scientific and pragmatic.

We apply them in our daily work.

Holistic

Our process covers all critical product development steps and ensures that each step aligns with your impact and business goals.

Scientific

We test and challenge our assumptions, iterate the solution, and make fact-based decisions that lead to real impact.

Pragmatic

We prioritize practical solutions and focus on delivering results efficiently and effectively, with a clear understanding of the problem space and goals.

Positive Impact & SDGs

We're eager to learn about your specific goals and challenges and help you make a positive difference on our planet. Talk to us about any challenge you're facing! These are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and areas where we have already made a difference together with our clients.

Circular economy (SDG 12: responsible consumption and production)

Organizations can use digital technology to make informed decisions and work together efficiently towards a circular economy. It's important to consider the needs of all stakeholders involved in the process to ensure that the digital tools created are user-friendly and truly impactful. At interfacewerk, we help international organizations develop these tools.

Mobility (SDG 11: sustainable cities and communities)

Our team works with you to create breakthrough solutions to develop green and emission-saving mobility solutions. Whether it's smart charging solutions or fleet management tools, we are ready to tackle mobility challenges with you and achieve impact.

Health (SDG 3: Good health care)

Digital tools have the potential to significantly improve both the mental and physical health of individuals. Discover yourself the Moving App, which can relieve physical pain such as tension in just 5 minutes.

Plastic reduction (SDG 12: Sustainable consumption & production)

The packaging industry and thus large corporations are facing a real challenge to reduce plastic and develop a plastic-free strategy. Digital tools can provide incentives here, create competition between players and identify potential savings.

De-carbonization (SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption & Production)

Digital tools can play a critical role in decarbonization efforts. They can help manage energy consumption, identify opportunities for improvement in carbon emissions, and facilitate the use of renewable energy.
